HALAL IS HOLISTIC - SAVE OUR BEES
Post-Brexit the United Kingdom will most likely have to set it's own environmental laws. There were concerted efforts in the past to introduce pesticides that may lead to the destruction of bee populations in the UK which could cause serious damage to our environment, food supply and ecosystem.
IHT has launched this campaign in partnership with other advocacy organisations to appeal to your local MPs to ensure that they are fully aware of the dangers of these pesticides.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
As halal consumers we have a responsibility to protect animal rights as part of halal principles. Allah (SWT) - God Almighty not only mentions the importance of the bee in the Holy Quran but an entire chapter is named after the bee. Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:
"And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct. Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink [honey], varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought."
(The Holy Quran, Chapter 16, Verses 68-69)

CRITICAL ROLE OF BEES
The critical role of bees in ensuring life on Earth cannot be overstated. Without bees we would run the risk of starvation and have serious issues with food supply and security.

Bees are the most prolific pollinators on Planet Earth.

They transfer the male pollen to the female stigma in plants allowing reproduction from which fruits, nuts and seeds are produced.

Without bee pollination we would lose almost one-third of all staple foods on Planet Earth leading to food shortages and starvation.

There are over 235,000 flowering plant species on Planet Earth and bees account for over 80% of their pollination needs.
